Description: In this art project, we learned about Vincent van Gogh and his famous paintings through a PowerPoint presentation. We discovered how he used bright colors and unique styles in his artwork.
For our project, we created a colorful background using tissue paper. I decided to make an underwater scene by cutting out shapes for my landscape. After that, I added details with markers and oil pastels, using bold colors and lines to make the scene come alive. This project allowed us to explore Van Gogh's techniques while expressing our own creativity!
Extension: As an extension of our Van Gogh-inspired art project, we can organize a gallery walk in the classroom. Each student will display their artwork on tables or walls and create title cards explaining their inspiration and the techniques they used. Along with this, students will write a brief artist statement about their piece, sharing what they learned from Van Gogh’s style.
During the gallery walk, everyone will take turns viewing each other’s work and leaving positive comments or helpful feedback on sticky notes attached to the artworks. This way, we can celebrate each other’s creativity and share our thoughts. After the walk, we’ll have a class discussion where we can talk about our experiences creating the art and what we learned from looking at others’ pieces.
To make it even more special, we can play music that reflects the feelings in Van Gogh’s paintings while we walk around. This will help us think about how music and art can influence each other. This extension allows us to reflect on our work, appreciate our classmates, and understand Van Gogh’s impact on art even more.
